Banking union: single supervisory mechanism
The Eurogroup will be briefed by Danièle Nouy, the Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), on the work of the SSM since last April, when she presented the first SSM annual report on supervisory activities.
The presentation is expected to include the results of the latest comprehensive assessments for 9 banks, which were published in November 2015, and will also cover the implementation of the SSM’s legal and methodological framework and key policy challenges for the coming year.
Greece: state of play
Ministers will discuss the ongoing implementation of Greece’s adjustment programme, specifically the upcomingimplementation of the second set of milestones, which would unlock the disbursement of the remaining €1 billion from the first tranche of financial assistance, and the bank recapitalisation.
At the end of November 2015, the Eurogroup Working Group agreed on the second set of milestones, which Greece is expected to implement as soon as possible. Up to €10 billion has been earmarked for the recapitalisation of Greek banks, from which funds are disbursed as required, on a case-by-case basis and following the relevant state aid decisions adopted by the European Commission.
Ireland: post-programme surveillance
The Eurogroup will hear a presentation by the Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund on the fourth post-programme surveillance mission to Ireland, which took place in the first half of November 2015.
The aim of this post-programme surveillance is to verify that there is no repayment risk for the outstanding loans which Ireland received for its financial assistance programme.
Thematic discussions on growth and jobs: pensions
The Eurogroup will hold a thematic discussion on the euro area member sates’ pension systems and the implications that they may have for the fiscal sustainability in the euro area. Ministers will exchange views on the lessons learned in designing and implementing pension reforms.
The Eurogroup will also discuss and adopt its work programme for the first half of 2016.
