Italy Pays More to Borrow Than Greece
By Paul Dobson
(Bloomberg) —
A lot of excitement over the Corriere front page discussing how Italian yields have climbed above those for Greece’s short-term markets. It’s a good point — and has been out there for a while as these headlines indicate. Just shows the premium investors are demanding for that Italian risk:
May 29:*ITALY SELLS EU5.5 BLN 183-DAY BILLS; AVG YIELD 1.213%June 6:Greece Sells EUR1.625 Bln 182-Day Bills; Yield 0.85%
Italy’s next sale is scheduled for June 12 so prepare for more negative headlines if those yields stay elevated.
