(Reminder: consumer prices have been growing way below that pace since early 2013). That sort of \u201cpragmatic and prudent\u201d fiscal boost would close a quarter of the gap between the forecast core inflation and the central bank\u2019s objective in 2017, according to European Commission\u2019s pitch. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; -webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; margin-top: 1.25rem; margin-bottom: 0px; color: rgb(60, 60, 60); font-family: TiemposTextWeb-Regular, Georgia, serif; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\">This could be music to the ears of ECB President Mario Draghi. With a not-too-subtle hint at Germany, he has repeatedly urged euro-area governments with fiscal space to use it. Sounds like he has an ally in his cause.<\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; -webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; margin-top: 1.25rem; margin-bottom: 0px; color: rgb(60, 60, 60); font-family: TiemposTextWeb-Regular, Georgia, serif; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\">But what would it take to go all the way and hit its target in the next two years? A lot more, according to Goldman Sachs economists. Their models show between 1.9 percent and 2.5 percent of extra fiscal spending would be needed just next year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; -webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; margin-top: 1.25rem; margin-bottom: 0px; color: rgb(60, 60, 60); font-family: TiemposTextWeb-Regular, Georgia, serif; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\">That sounds like a tall order in the the 19-member economy, which is collectively already running a deficit.
